Dubai Chamber, CII in talks to set up skill centre

dubai — The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and the Confederat­ion of Indian Industry (CII) are in discussion­s for launching a joint skill developmen­t centre to train Emirati youth.

The CII, which announced on Sunday its plan to open its 10th overseas office in Dubai within three months, said the move would help further boost the two-way trade, investment and business engagement between the two countries.

The delegation of India’s largest industry chamber headed CII president Shobana Kamineni held discussion­s on Monday with Dubai Chamber on the feasibilit­y of the project.

The 13-member delegation, which arrived on Sunday and held discussion­s with Abu Dhabi Chamber and Mubadala on stepping up investment and business relations, met in Dubai with Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, and Minister of Economy Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri,

In a media briefing, Kamineni said India and the UAE have exciting opportunit­ies to boost trade and investment cooperatio­n in various sectors. India has made remarkable headway in ease of doing business and is now offers overseas investors enormous opportunit­ies in several key sectors.

Indian Ambassador to the UAE Navdeep Singh Suri, and Indian Consul General in Dubai Vipul were also present at the event.

Rakesh Bharti Mittal, president-designate of the CII, said businesses from both countries could collaborat­e on food and agricultur­e and defence equipment manufactur­ing sectors. “India has the potential to be the food basket for the UAE. Indian defence equipment manufactur­ing companies are well-positioned to set up joint ventures in the UAE,” he said.

Chandrajit Banerjee, CII Director General, said Dubai Chamber and the delegation also explored cooperatio­ns in water technology sector.
