Stuff the bus with charity items

- Angel Tesorero

dubai — This Ramadan, students and their parents are encouraged to ‘Stuff the Bus’ with school bags, lunch boxes, stationery sets and other educational materials to help less-privileged children who struggle to get their basic school needs.

The ‘Stuff the Bus’ project is an initiative by School Transport Services (STS), one of the biggest private school bus operators in the UAE, and is being organised under the aegis of Emirates Red Crescent, in association with Aster Clinics and Bounce Inc.

A school bus provided by the STS will be parked outside schools from June 18-22 between 9am and 11am. Alternatively, donations can be dropped at the STS office anytime from 8am-12noon until June 22. “Stuff the Bus helps promote learning and encourages self-esteem. It’s the first step to prepare disadvantaged students for a fulfilling, successful future,” said Col. Mohanlal Augustine, managing director of STS.

“Things we may consider ‘basics’ — like school bags, lunch boxes and stationery sets — can be hard to come when you are less fortunate. But when you put school supplies in the hands of kids who need them, you are helping eliminate a huge barrier to their success,” added Col. Mohanlal Augustine, who is also a retired officer at the Indian Army education corps.

“So rally your co-workers, fellow students and friends, or arrange to collect donations at your business or organisation,” he said

Col Augustine added that the STS will accept “anything that will benefit the life of an underprivileged school kid.” Prospective donors can also check www.schooltransportservices.com to know the arrival of vehicles at the schools.
