Police will intensify beach patrolling

dubai — During a visit to the Port Police station, Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, the Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, said that patrolling on the beaches will be intensifie­d to ensure the security of beachgoers.

While calling for intensifie­d monitoring of shores, the Dubai Police Chief stressed the big role played by the Port Police Station, in maintainin­g the maritime security and taking care of tourism events at the ports and beaches in Dubai.

According to the statistics of the maritime security department, 71 maritime accidents took place in 2016 compared to 64 in 2015. To reduce the accidents, the Port Police Station had organised 17 awareness campaigns last year. The campaigns resulted in the reduction of accidents and nabbing of people using electric scooters in prohibited places and confiscati­on of vessels that violate local and internatio­nal laws.

The Port Police Station recorded 344 violations in 2016 compared to 96 violations during the year 2015, and seized 234 water bikes in 2016 compared to the 197 in 2015. The station also issued tickets for 173 violations of driving a water bike in a prohibited places in 2016 against 435 in 2015.

The maritime security department secured 21 sea races last year, compared to 25 races in 2015. The section also participat­ed in 9 events in 2016 compared to 10 in 2015.

While reviewing the statistics, Maj Gen Al Marri praised the security teams who contribute­d to reducing the number of criminal cases; 479 cases were registered in 2016 as compared to 506 in 2015. He also praised the police officials who dealt with 24,923 traffic and criminal services compared to 25,409 traffic and criminal services in 2015. The victim care department at Port Police Station dealt with 359 traffic and criminal victims last year, compared with 493 in 2015.

Maj Gen Al Marri visited the Port Police Station as part of the annual inspection programme for the police stations, in the presence of Major General Ahmed Mohammed bin Thani, the assistant commander-in-chief of ports affairs; Brigadier General Abdullah Rashid Abdullah, the director of the Port Police Stations.
