Cops offer shelter to family evicted from apartment

sharjah — The Sharjah Police have provided shelter to an Arab family who were thrown out by their landlord over failure to pay rent. The family, which comprises a couple and their two sons aged nine and five years, have been put up at a hotel in Sharjah.

The police’s humanitari­an gesture came after they learnt that the family had been forced to live in their car parked at Al Butina area for 20 days.

The Arab man, Abu Adnan, 33, said he and his family were outside the country for close to six months when the cheques he had submitted for rent bounced.

“I managed to settle one of the cheques and requested the owner of the flat to give me some time to clear the rest. However, he refused and threw us out of the flat,” said Adnan. “The flat was locked and we couldn’t get even our clothes and belongings. We had to sleep in my car and sometimes in mosques.”

force’s community department to contact Adnan.

Adnan said: “While thinking what would happen to my family, I got a call from someone who said he was from the Sharjah Police. He asked me to meet him at his office. When I reached there, the officer and his assistants told me to take my family to a hotel, where they had taken a furnished suite for us.

“I was overcome with emotion at this offer.” Since then, the police have been in constant touch with Adnan to help him resolve the issues with his landlord.

Adnan said: “I appreciate the humanitari­an attitude of the police in helping me and my family.”

A top police official told Khaleej Times that they intervened to end the suffering of the two innocent children and their mother.
