Indian group donates Dh100,000 to Somalia
abu dhabi — An Indian organisation has donated Dh100,000 to the famine-hit Somalia through Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), the UAE-based charity.
Office bearers of Indian Islamic Centre Abu Dhabi (IICA) said the charity work comes as part of the ‘Year of Giving’ and holy month of Ramadan initiatives.
“The famine, drought, instability and crisis have deeply affected the people in war-torn Somalia. We are doing our bit to alleviate their pain,” Bava Haji, the president of IICA, said before presenting the donation to Abdullah Fidel Saeed Alhameli, the ERC chief administrative relations officer. “This is our biggest contribution in the last four decades,” he added.
Abdussamad Samadani, a scholar and Indian Union Muslim League national secretary, who is on a visit to the UAE, stressed on the importance of charity during this month.
Samadani is among the religious scholars invited to the UAE by the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, during Ramadan.
