Workers to stay cool during midday break

-

The UAE values the contributions of its millionplus blue collar workers who toil in the scorching heat to build the superlative edifices that define the emirates today. Laws over the years have evolved to take better care of workers in the country. The government has nudged companies to provide better accommodations, and improve the standards of living for the those who toil in the sun. Summer brings extreme heat in this part of the world, and the government understands that working in the unforgiving temperature of the desert can be extremely hard. The annual midday break during the peak of summer is to make it easy for people who keep the country running. They need to stay healthy and cool. This practice has in place for about 13 years now, and millions of workers can take a breather from the sun. This year’s midday break starts today and will in place until September 15. By mandating midday breaks, the government is doing all it can to protect their interests without harming businesses. Every company is expected to adhere to the rules. Violating companies face hefty fines, and in some cases even harsher punishments. This year, smart systems are also being implemented to monitor the plan. Inspection teams are on the job to ensure prompt alerts and action against violators.

The booming construction industry in the UAE is attracting people from all over the world. Millions of workers from the subcontinent come here to earn their living, and repatriate money home. More are interested to come here and work. This is because working conditions are improving and new laws are being introduced by the government. Labour issues are taken seriously by officials. Only recently, Abu Dhabi and Dubai mandated health insurance for all. This was hailed as a very important policy decision as gives people a sense of security when it comes to their health. By enforcing midday breaks, improving health benefits, and cracking down on errant employers, the government is doing all it can do to make life easy.
