England won a closely-fought encounter after making 165-9 with Graham Gooch’s 33 being the top score. Mike Hendricks claimed four wickets as Pakistan were bowled out for 151.

1983 Prudential World Cup England won by seven wickets

Pakistan did well with the bat in posting 232/8 helped by Javed Miandad’s 67. England won with ease, guided by Graeme Fowler’s 69 off 96 balls, with seven fours.

1987 Reliance World Cup Pakistan won by 18 runs

Pakistan had their revenge as fifties to Saleem Malik and Ijaz Ahmed took them to 239/7 in 50 overs. Abdul Qadir grabbed four wickets to keep England to 221 in 48.4 overs.

Pakistan again beat England eight days later to enter the semis. England made 244 as Qadir (3/31) and Imran (4/37) bowled well. Saleem Malik hit 88 from 92 balls for Pakistan.

Pakistan were skittled out for 74 in 40.2 overs with Derek Pringle taking three wickets. England were 24/1 in eight overs when rain ruined the encounter, giving each team one point.

2003 ICC World Cup England won by 112 runs

Pakistan restricted England to 246/8 but faltered in the chase, slipping to 17/3 with James Anderson grabbing all three wickets as Pakistan were bowled out in the 31st over.

2010 World Twenty20 England won by six wickets

England won the third edition of the World T20 riding on Kevin Pietersen’s 73 not out from 52 balls in chase of 148 after good show from Stuart Broad (2/25) and Michael Yardy (2/19).
