Sharjah cops settle over 2,600 cases out of court

sharjah — Without taking financial disputes to the courts, the Sharjah Police have resolved 2,631 cases amicably in the first half of the year.

Lt. Col Youssef Harmool, deputy director of Sharjah police stations, said that this was achieved as part of the reconcilia­tion initiative launched by the Sharjah Police in 2011 to solve disputes using reconcilia­tion methods.

“The financial dispute cases lodged across the police stations of the emirate included bounced cheques and money disputes,” Lt. Col Harmool said.

The initiative is aimed at spreading the culture of forgivenes­s and cooperatio­n among the residents of the emirate.

He urged the members of the community to resort to legal ways to resolve disputes and recover funds through all the comprehens­ive police stations in the emirate without resorting to violence.

The police give grace period to the borrowers to make arrangemen­t to pay off the debts. If the two parties agree, the case would be followed up by the service personnel and would not be referred to the courts.
