138 tents provide 85,000 free Iftars daily
dubai — The department of Islamic affairs and charitable activities in Dubai announced that it contributes up to 85,000 free Iftars on a daily basis at 138 Ramadan tents across the emirate of Dubai.
The department aims to distribute about 2.5 million free Iftars as part of the major activities of the Rashid Bin Mohammed Ramadan Gathering running at the Khawaneej area.
The function is annually held under the sponsorship of Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, chairman of the Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation.
Ahmed Al Muhairi, executive director of charity work sector, said the department is running eight grand tents at the Talha bin Al Zubair mosque in Al Qusais Industrial-2, workers’ accommodation in Warsan and Hor Al Anz areas and Al Badaa mosque in Al Qusais Industrial area. Tents are organised in the Abu Zar Al Ghefari in Al Muhaisana area-1, Abdulrahman Keteet mosque in Al Qouz -4, Omar bin Al Khattab in the Dubai Investment City,and the Mohammed bin Rashid Ramadan Gathering in Al Khawaneej area.
“These are besides 130 Ramadan tents contributed by philanthropists across Dubai under the supervision of the department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable activities here.” These Ramadan tents features the tolerance, integrity and compassion of Islam towards Muslims and non-Muslims alike, Al Muhairi said.
“Feeding food and meeting the needs of the poor is one of the main features of Islam. The department also runs a number of medical camps on the sidelines of these Ramadan tents in collaboration with several hospital and health centres,” he added.
“Blood pressure, blood glucose, and cholesterol tests and eye scans are done in cooperation with the Noor Dubai entity.” Lectures are also organised in different languages at these gatherings to develop religious awareness of the attendees. “Valuable prizes are gifted to the attendees based on a raffle draw and quiz contests.”
The department has, meanwhile, distributed over 1,000 first aid kits to mosques across Dubai.
“The move is aimed to adopt the latest health and safety standards in all mosques here. The imams and staff of mosques will also receive adequate training,” said Dr Hamad Al Shaibani, director general of the department.
