Two company employees stage robbery; held within 24 hours
ras al khaimah — The Ras Al Khaimah Police have arrested a gang of three Asians in under 24 hours after they robbed Dh287,000 from a company in the emirate.
Two of the suspects worked for the company and staged the robbery, police investigations have revealed.
Brigadier Abdullah Ali Menakhas, director of the criminal investigation department (CID), RAK Police, on Saturday said they were alerted that an unidentified robber had attacked a representative of a company and robbed Dh278,400 from him.
“The ‘victim’ — who later turned out to be involved in the crime — reportedly resisted the attacker and ran after the robber to get his money back but he could not. The robber escaped to Al Qarm area,” said Brigadier Menakhas.
A team of CID officers was formed to investigate the case. The team took the statement of the employee and collected forensic evidence from the crime scene. “The employee said the robbed money belonged to the company. He collected the amount after selling some products of the company,” said Briga- dier Menakhas.
He was heading to a local bank in a shopping centre to deposit the money in his company’s account, when the incident took place. “As he got out of his car to go to the shopping centre, an unidentified person suddenly attacked him from behind, and snatched the plastic bag in which the money was kept, he claimed.”
It was then that a colleague of the employee turned up at the crime scene. “He was supposed to go to the bank with the employee, but got late, he claimed.
“The two representatives said they tried to catch the robber, but he managed to flee.”
The RAK Police, in collaboration with the departments of special forces, air wing, and second squad of coast guards searched Al Qarm area, but could

not locate the robber. The team then began suspecting the two employees as their testimonies did not add up and “had too many loopholes”.
Investigations revealed the involvement of a expatriate living in Dubai. “Armed with the prosecution permission, and with the help of the Dubai Police, the suspect’s hideout was raided and he was detained,” said Brigadier Menakhas.
The suspect said that he was in the country on a visit visa and was looking for a job. “The second representative of the company promised him a good job if he robbed money from someone who would be transporting some company cash to a bank. The suspect agreed and committed the robbery. He hid the money in Al Qarm area,” Brigadier Menakhas said.
