‘No one knows your child better than you’

-

Adam Griffin, head of occupational therapy at Autism Rocks, said there are a few steps which help parents prepare their children for summer activities.

“Talk to your child about what is going to happen, who will be there, where will it take place and what to do if you feel nervous,” Griffin said.

“Speak to the staff, coaches and extended family beforehand. No one knows your child better than you. Be sure to share that insight with coaches, extended family and anyone else who may be able to support your child.

“You are your child’s main advocate. Others are more than happy to help but do not know what to do for the best. Help them to help your child by providing some background on your child’s personality, their strengths and difficulties and how they can support them best.”
