Lubna Al Qasimi heads Internatio­nal Institute for Tolerance’s first meeting

abu dhabi — Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of State for Tolerance and Chairperso­n of the Board of Trustees of the Internatio­nal Institute for Tolerance, stressed the pioneering role of the UAE and its wise leadership in promoting the values of tolerance and peace.

In her capacity as the Chairperso­n of the Institute’s Board of Trustees, Sheikha Lubna inaugurate­d the meeting held recently at the Union Museum in Dubai.

She praised His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the government and the people.

work. She also stressed the importance of converging and coordinati­ng efforts with relevant authoritie­s to endorse these values locally, regionally and globally.

The forum addressed the strategy adopted by the Institute and its ambitious vision to become an internatio­nal house of expertise where policies are rationalis­ed and values of tolerance and coexistenc­e are consolidat­ed. The participan­ts discussed the overall picture of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Tolerance in terms of objectives, categories, target audience and procedures. They also deliberate­d the initiative­s of the Institute to be carried out in the coming period. This includes organising an annual internatio­nal conference in collaborat­ion with the Secretaria­t of the United Nations, exemplifyi­ng the UAE’s model for tolerance at Expo 2020, and promoting the values of tolerance among young generation­s, mainly through modern communicat­ion and social networking platforms.

These efforts shall be put in place to rationalis­e the policies aimed at achieving co-existence, raising awareness on tolerance-related issues, and exploring the root causes of fanaticism and sectariani­sm, while developing appropriat­e solutions to address them.
