Sharif dares rivals to compete with PML-N in serving people
haveli bahadur shah — Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday challenged his political opponents to compete with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in politics, advising them to desist from hatching conspiracies.
“You repeatedly faced electoral defeats at the hands of PML-N, and we will continue to defeat you. You cannot win elections, but only conspire,” he said while addressing a public gathering after inaugurating the first unit of 1,230mw Haveli Bahadur Shah Power Plant in district Jhang.
Without naming any political party, the prime minister continued, “Since you don’t have the power to win elections, you just conspire either in the garb of ‘dharnas’ or in the name of accountability”
“Then you hide yourselves behind the JIT. It is cowardice. Instead, you should come and compete in politics,” he said, adding: “The nation knows about our positive work and contribution, and nation also knows well about what you have been doing for the last four years.”
The prime minister said his government would continue to pursue its agenda of development and service of people.
Sharif said apart from a huge development work being carried out in Balochistan, the PML-N government was also constructing motorways in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Moreover, he added the government had provided Rs26 billion over the last two years for the completion of Lowari Tunnel project, adding the tunnel project, which had been facing delays for the last several decades, would be inaugurated in the next two months. Similarly, he said coal power projects were being initiated in Tharparkar, Sindh.
He also mentioned Metro and Orange Line projects as achievements of the PML-N government in bringing about a revolutionary change in the life of commuters.
“Earlier, people used to spent much more time and money to reach their destination, now they reach their destination in Rs20 to 25 with respect and comfort,” he said, adding that even service-oriented projects could not escape criticism of opponents who ridicule them.
The prime minister said the government had spent Rs8 billion for improving railways and work was under way to enhance train speed from 80km to 120km per hour, adding it would transform the railway system.
He lauded the efforts of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and others in the early completion of Haveli Bahadur Shah Power Project, adding it was producing electricity at a cheaper rate of Rs6.42 per unit.
The prime minister said the Sahiwal Coal Power Project had also added 1,320mw of electricity to the national grid which will help improve power supply situation.
