Ajman to introduce 11 fire safety drones
ajman — To prevent fire incidents, the Ajman Civil Defence has started using drones to inspect the roofs of buildings to ensure that they are not used as storage spaces.
A senior official said that using rooftops as storage is a fire hazard. He said that the department has received 11 new drones to monitor the roofs of industrial and commercial establishments, to detect any irregularities that may result in fire.
Brig. Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, director-general of Ajman Civil Defence, said that the number of fire accidents has reduced in the last two years due to awareness programmes conducted for the staff and workers in industrial areas. “Due to our awareness efforts, 1,027 companies have met with fire protection regulations during the first half of 2017 while only 400 companies had met with requirements during the same period last year.”
The introduction of drones are aimed at strengthening inspection committees, which periodically monitor commercial and industrial establishments to ensure security regulations are met.
The Ajman Civil Defence department has fined 11 establishments and warned 395 others for failing to comply the fire safety regulations. These violations were detected during the 1,433 surprise visits carried out by the inspectors during the first half of the year.
