Sharjah celebrates French National Day
sharjah — For the first time in its history, Sharjah hosted the French National Day celebrations on the Flag Island.
The event was organised by the French Consulate in coordination with the Sharjah Department of Government Relations and Maraya Art Centre of Shurooq (Sharjah Investment and Development Authority).
It was attended by Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, executive chairman of Sharjah Department of Government Relations; Majdi Abed, the French ConsulGeneral; Sheikh Majed bin Abdullah Al Qasimi, director of Sharjah Department of Government Relations; Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO of Shurooq; and the diplomatic community representing GCC, Arab, Islamic and foreign countries.
The ceremony opened with Sheikh Fahim’s speech in French. He expressed his pleasure at the selection of Sharjah to celebrate the French National Day, wishing the French people further progress and prosperity.
Sheikh Fahim also affirmed Sharjah’s keenness, under the leadership of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to strengthen relations with France.
Interestingly, Abed, spoke in Arabic on the occasion, lauding Sharjah’s outstanding progress and status achieved thanks to the vision of its Ruler in building bridges of cultural communication between the Arab and Western worlds at various levels.
The French consul-general conveyed the keenness of French President Emmanuel Macaron in strengthening bonds with the Northern Emirates across various spheres.
Sheikh Fahim’s recent visit to France also reinvigorated the strong ties between the country and Sharjah.
