Supercar revs up 270km/h on Dubai airport runway

- Keith Pereña

dubai — What would you do if you had one day — just one — with a Dh10 million supercar?

If you ask this question to the petrolheads from Top Gear, they would be revving up on the roads of the ultra-luxe city of Dubai with the car.

In a video posted on their official YouTube channel, the Top Gear team took the state-of-theart Bugatti Chiron for a drive on the road leading up to Jebel Hafeet. Not only that, the guys pushed the car to its limits on the runway of Dubai World Central — yes, an airport runway.

The eight-minute video sees Chris Harris taking the Bugatti for a spin on the Al Ain mountains, commending its superior handling and 1,500 horsepower, quad turbocharged engine.

The Chiron is the successor of the acclaimed Bugatti Veyron — the fastest car in the world during its time.

Of course, a supercar video cannot be complete if it’s not going ridiculously fast. After testing how well the supercar holds up on the swirly roads, Harris took it to Dubai World Central, which is also known as Al Maktoum Airport.

Making his way to the airport runway, a Dubai icon also makes an appearance in the form of an Emirates plane. With the car and an entire stretch of runway ahead of Harris, he achieves speeds above 270km/h.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, a Bugatti representative said that the Chiron is priced at €2.5 million, around Dh10.71 million. The price doesn’t include VIP privileges or delivery of the car. That’s out of the league for most of us, but you can still get an eyeful of it on display at the Bugatti showroom on Sheikh Zayed Road.
