Mleiha Road will be ready by next year

- Ahmed Shaaban

sharjah — In a bid to enhance traffic flow in Sharjah, the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MoID) has completed over 55 per cent of the Mleiha Road.

The major project, worth Dh174 million, was to be completed in the first quarter of 2018, according to Hassan Juma Al Mansuri, undersecretary of the MoID.

The ministry has adopted an innovative way to carry out the mega project without obstructing the traffic flow, he added.

“The development works, including the addition of a third lane and hard shoulder, extends over 42km on both directions from the Al Badee intersection to the Sheikh Khalifa road exit in the emirate of Fujairah.”

The development works on the key road are based on an intensive study of the growth of the traffic flow for the next 20 years, he said, adding that the traditional tungsten lamps will be replaced with power-saving LED bulbs.

Al Mansuri said that the nature of the project “involves the connection of two hot points which are mostly busy every day.” So our priority has been to do the two-year-old development works without obstructing traffic flow or causing congestion. The project is expected to be completed as scheduled, owing to the efficient collaboration between the ministry and all the bodies concerned.”

The ministry has also finished up to 42 per cent of the development works of the Al Badee Bridge. The project, worth Dh200 million, is to be completed by the end of this year,” he added.

The three-part project spans the construction of a three-lane bridge in one direction for those heading from Dubai to Sharjah in the direction of University City.

“The second part includes the construction of a three-lane exit for those heading from Sharjah to Dubai, while the third part inv-olves the extension of the current bridge on the Emirates and Mleiha Road from three to seven lanes,” he said. ahmedshaaban@khaleejtimes.com
