Ajman set to have beach rescue tower

ajman — The ajman Civil defence department has completed 80 per cent of the constructi­on of its sea-side monitoring tower. The tower at the ajman beach, constructe­d at the cost of dh1.5 million, will be used for maritime rescue. it will begin operations by the end of the year.

brigadier Mohammed ali Jumeirah, director of Civil defence for fire stations in ajman, said “the tower has been designed based on internatio­nal standards and specificat­ions in monitoring and detection of movement”.

The tower will also be supported by drones — to locate and rescue from drowning and also recover bodies of the drowned.

The ajman Civil defence is taking efforts to curb drowning accidents in its beaches to zero within the next two years.

“The rescue team at the centre consist of 15 officers who are proficient in swimming and equipped with advanced technologi­es for rapid response. The team also monitors the weather conditions to advise swimmers and beachgoers about dangerous areas due to sea currents the increase during strong winds and high waves,” said brig Jumeirah.

The rescue unit will be part of the new monitoring tower after its completion.
