dubai — A 24-year-old man has been charged with sneaking into the flat of a woman at night and touching her as she slept.

The Lebanese man has also been accused of stealing Dh500 from her purse. He faced trial on charges of trespass, molestation and theft in the Court of First Instance.

The case dates back to February 16. The incident, which took place at a building in the Business Bay, was reported to the Bur Dubai police.

“I went to bed around 11pm. At 5am, I felt someone entering my bedroom and moving the blanket and touching me. The man ran out when I screamed for help,” the Finnish complainant, a manager aged 30, said.

Her flatmates told her that they saw a man entering their rooms with a mobile in his hand, which he was using as a light. They did not chase him and thought he left the place.

me when I checked my purse,” she told the prosecutor.

The complainant’s British flatmate, 29, said she left her bedroom door open for another roommate, who did not have a key, when she slept at midnight. “Someone entered our room around 4am. My roommate was sitting on her bed. I screamed and told him to go out which he did.”

Still photos taken from surveillance cameras showed the defendant was indeed at that building on the day of the incident.

The accused was arrested on April 26. The complainant was summoned to the police station and she identified him among other suspects three times.
