abu dhabi — Forty high school students from across the UAE have become the first to take part in an internship programme at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi designed to develop the future of the UAE’s healthcare sector.
A total of 35 UAE national students and five expatriates from public and private schools in the UAE became the first to take part in Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s Junior Caregiver Programme, during which they will gain first-hand experience about working in the healthcare industry.
The two-week programme will provide students with the opportunity to work as interns across 13 hospital departments including medicine, pharmacy, nursing, and administration, rotating throughout the facility to discover the aspects of caregiving which most interest them.
Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, executive director of school operations at the Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec), along with senior officials of Adec, welcomed the students to the programme on Sunday at an inauguration ceremony held at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. “The sight of so many promising young people who have chosen to embark upon our first Junior Caregiver programme fills me with optimism for the future of the UAE healthcare sector,” Al Dhaheri said.
Yaser Obaid, chief human capital officer of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, said: “Increasing the number of UAE nationals seeking careers in healthcare will contribute significantly to the long-term sustainability of this industry and overall health in the UAE.
