Duo kidnaps, severely assaults relative over family dispute

- Marie Nammour

dubai — Two brothers admitted to the police that they beat up and kidnapped an Emirati relative over some previous family issues.

According to public prosecution records, the two Pakistanis, aged 38 and 32, went to the victim’s house in Al Nahda and stalked him until he stepped out around 4am on March 15.

Both were charged in the Court of First Instance with kidnap, use of force and murder threats.

“I was walking to my car in the parking lot of the building, when two men attacked me all of a sudden in the dark. They beat me up all over using an iron bar,” the 33-year-old victim said.

“When I tried to fight back, I was hit with a sword and got injured in the leg. I fell down while they kept beating me. I screamed but no one was around.”

The assaulters then snatched his mobile phone and car key, and forced him inside their car. “I was gagged and tied up in the back seat. I heard them talking about stopping at a fuel station where one of them put on a jacket, as his clothes were covered with blood. He then bought juice and a adhesive tape.”

The victim added: “They drove towards Al Rashidiyah. I heard them saying they would kill me and dump my body in the desert and then turn themselves in to the police.”

The duo then stopped by at their place, where they changed their clothes before parking the car in a yard away from residential buildings. They drove away in another car, leaving the victim to suffocate in the car. But eventually, he was able to open the door and scream for help.

The police arrived shortly later. He told them that the two men were planning to leave the UAE through the airport.

The victim said that the pair kidnapped him for about two hours and forty minutes and that the attack left him with multiple fractures in the right leg and the right hand and a broken nose in addition to face, head and ear injuries.

A police lieutenant said: “By the time I reached the place where the victim was abandoned, he was taken to hospital. Before he underwent surgery, I could talk to him briefly.

“We then arrested the two men at the Dubai International Airport. One of them was about to take a flight to the UK while the other’s destination was Pakistan. They admitted that old family disputes were behind the attack,” said the officer.

The duo told the investigators that they had stalked the victim as one of them was aware of the time he usually went to work.
