Consumer prices change marginally in Abu Dhabi
abu dhabi — The Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi, SCAD, has issued its most recent statistical report showing detailed results of the Consumer Price Index, CPI, for June 2017, as compared to 2014, as well as the consumer price record calculations for the same month based on the level of prosperity of local families and regions and the contribution per centage of the major product categories.
The centre stressed that the relative rate of change in consumer prices reached 1.8 per cent in June 2017, compared to June 2016 while the CPI increased by 0.4 per cent in June 2017, compared to May 2017. It also noted that the rate of Consumer Price Inflation reached 2.1 per cent in the first part of 2017, compared to the same period in 2016. The index also reached 108 per cent during the first half of 2017, compared to 105.8 per cent during the same period of 2016. The housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuel category contributed 51.3 per cent of the total increase during the first part of 2017, compared to the same period of 2016, due to a price increase of 3.2 per cent in this category.
The transport category contributed 34.2 per cent to the increase during the first part of 2017, compared to the same period of 2016, and the prices of this group rose by 5.4 per cent.
The consumer prices in the entertainment and culture category increased by 8 per cent during the first part of 2017, compared the same period of 2016, and this group contributed 17.5 per cent to discounting the rate of increase.
The centre stressed that the consumer prices of products purchased by households in the “lower income” category rose by 2.4 per cent during the first part of 2017, compared to the same period of 2016.
