CITIZEN SAFETY

The UAE government’s top priority is the safety of its citizens. The Sharjah authorities’ latest directive to building owners to keep their buildings safe and secured by installing fire and safety measures is a good move. Any kind of slackness on this front could attract penalties. Fine-based approach often works. I would also request authorities to mandate CCTV cameras in all building entrances, corridors, and lifts in Sharjah. It would make residents in the emirate feel safer. — Sreekumar Nair, Sharjah
