Manchester City’s Caceres to join Al Wasl?

- KT Report

dubai — Arabian Gulf League club Al Wasl are set to sign Manchester City midfielder Anthony Caceres, reports from Australia said on Wednesday.

The reputed Sydney Morning Herald and various other publications like The Australian reported that Caceres, who was loaned out to A-League club Melbourne City, flew in to Dubai for a medical and a deal is set to be announced in the next 24 hours or so.

Whilst some reports said that he will join The Cheetahs on loan, other reports said it could be a permanent transfer.

Al Wasl, who finished second to Al Jazira in the Arabian Gulf League last season, are currently on their pre-season camp in Munich, Germany.

The club was not available for comment. Al Wasl’s foreign contingent consists of Fabio de Lima, Caio Canedo and Ronaldo Mendes and Caceres could fill in the Asian player slot at the Zabeel Stadium.

The reports said that Al Wasl coach Rodolfo Arruabarrena had made a phone call to Caceres and convinced him to make the move to the Middle East. Manchester City had signed Caceres from A-League side Central Coast Mariners in 2016 but soon loaned him out to their sister club Melbourne City. Caceres, who is of Uruguayan descent, began his career with the Central Coast Mariners in 2012 and made 62 appearances, scoring three goals.

He has made 38 appearances for Melbourne City and scored three goals. Al Wasl have won the League seven times with their last title coming in the 2006-07 season. They won the GCC Champions League in 2010 and finished runners-up in 2012.
