Youth killed, two injured in UAQ road accident

umm al quwain — An Emirati young man succumbed to his injuries after a road accident in the Falaj Al Mualla area of Umm Al Quwain on Thursday night.

Two friends of the victim sustained medium to serious injuries and fractures owing to the terrible impact of the accident, according to a top officer with the UAQ Police.

The central operations room of the UAQ Police, having been alerted of the collision, dispatched traffic police, ambulances, paramedics and rescue teams to the site in a record time.

Col Saeed Obaid bin Aran, director of traffic and patrols department of the UAQ Police Directorat­e-General, on Friday afternoon said the victim lost control over the vehicle, which veered off the road and overturned several times.

“Initial enactment of the accident, which took place on the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Road on Thursday around 9.30pm, showed that speeding and inattentiv­e driving caused the accident.”

He said that the victim was heading from the Umm Al Quwain city to Falaj Al Mualla area at a high speed.

“The victim could not take a road curve properly and first hit a signboard before the vehicle flipped over several times.

“The driver and the passengers were thrown out of the vehicle due to the impact of the accident. This showed that none of them of had fastened their seatbelts.”

The trio was rushed to the Al Dhaid hospital. “However, the driver was declared dead shortly after being admitted to the hospital, while the two others were shifted to the intensive care unit.” ahmedshaab­an@khaleejtim­es.com
