3 suffocate to death in their sleep in Al Ain

- Ismail Sebugwaawo

al ain — Three Asian men suffocated to death after allegedly inhaling carbon-dioxide from a generator that was being used to operate their airconditioner.

The incident occurred on Tuesday when four men, in their 30s, were reportedly sleeping in their accommodation in Al Ain.

The men were apparently using the generator to operate the air-conditioner in their room after power was disconnected.

Imran, the roommate of the dead men who had survived the tragedy after being hospitalised, said they had connected the air-conditioner to a generator during the evening after the power went off in their house.

“We had knowledge of operating air-conditioners, and when power was gone in our house, we put fuel in the generator to run the air conditioner in our room,” said Imran. He added that after having dinner, they closed the door and all went to sleep.

“I woke up around 2am to go to the toilet but I felt dizzy and fatigued,” he said.

“I then returned to my bed but only to wake up the next day in a hospital.

“I was later told that my three roommates died after inhaling carbon-dioxide from the generator.”

The men’s other colleagues informed the authorities when the Asians didn’t wake up from their sleep in the morning.

The police came and took the four men to the hospital but three of them were declared dead on reaching there.
