abu dhabi — The trial of a Pakistani man accused of strangling an 11-year-old boy to death after raping him on the rooftop of their building in Abu Dhabi will begin on August 8, judicial authorities have a announced.

The Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution on Saturday said the man has been referred to the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court on charges of premeditated murder, raping the child, cross-dressing and driving a car without a number plate.

The Pakistani boy, identified as Azan Majid, went missing on June 1, after he went to a nearby mosque to pray. His body was found the next day on the rooftop of the building on the Muroor Road where he was staying with his father and stepmother.

The Abu Dhabi Police had earlier said that their investigations suggested the boy was sexually abused and strangled to death.

The police said they had arrested the 33-year-old accused, who is also related to the child, after investigations suggested that he strangled the boy to death after raping him.

The police also revealed that the man cross-dressed to carry out the crime.

The Pakistani had lured the boy into going with him to the rooftop, where he raped him before strangling him to death using a rope, according to the police.

The police said the accused had confessed to them that he disguised as a woman to lie to the boy because he knew his parents always told him not to go out with strangers.

The police believe the accused had planned the crime. After raping and murdering the boy, the man fled the scene. But the police managed to identify him and arrest him.— ismail@khaleejtimes.com
