dubai — A civil engineer has gone on trial accused of molesting a female hotel guest in the presence of her husband.

The Court of First Instance was told the 26-year-old Jordanian man fondled the complainant as she was in the corridor leading to her room at the hotel located in Naif on June 26.

“I was with my husband walking in the corridor around 2.15am towards our room. We were near the night club in the hotel where we stay as permanent guests. My husband was a few steps ahead of me,” the complainant, a 28-year-old housewife from Singapore, told the prosecutor.

“Then, I spotted the accused coming towards us with two other men. He took me by surprise when he suddenly touched me inappropriately. As I screamed, my husband turned around and that man ran away.”

The complainant said they informed the security guard and also called the police. The defendant was arrested at the same place shortly later. The woman’s husband, a Singaporean employee, 31, said his wife told him the accused touched her with his two hands intentionally.

“I chased and caught him, then reported him to the hotel guards. The accused confessed he made a mistake and that he was sorry. But I called the police anyway.”
