Kikkoman soy sauce from Japan banned
dubai — The Ministry of Climate Change and Enviroment (MoCCAE) has issued a warning against Japanese-made Kikkoman soy sauce, available in the UAE market, prohibiting its import.
Having received notifications of alcohol content in the sauce from the authorities concerned, the Ministry urges consumers to dispose of it.
The ministry also banned the circulation of the product in the UAE market, in accordance with ministerial resolution No (539) of 2012 on the Standard Guide to the Procedures for the Prohibition of Handling and Banning of Food.
“The decision was based on the results of the tests conducted by specialised accredited laboratories, which confirmed that several samples of the product with different production dates violated the rules,” informed sources said. “The ministry also clarifies that this decision targets specifically Kikkoman soy sauce made in Japan and does not include Kikkoman products produced in other countries.”
MoCCAE emphasises that all food products in the UAE — whether locally produced or imported — are safe for consumption. “The Ministry works in continued coordination with the relevant authorities to ensure the safety of all imported and traded food products.”
All such products undergo a strict monitoring process at all stages, in line with the best international practices. “This includes laboratory testing as per the risk assessment system and early notification of foods that pose a risk to consumers’ health.” ahmedshaaban@khaleejtimes.com
