Abu Dhabi opens centre for modified vehicles
abu dhabi — The Capital’s first vehicle inspection centre for modified vehicles was launched at Yas Marina Circuit on Tuesday. The launch follows the implementation of UAE Cabinet decision No. 45 of 2016, regarding the safety requirements of modified vehicles.
The Abu Dhabi Motorsport Management (ADMM) at Yas Marina Circuit — the hub of motor sports in the region — established the first modified vehicles inspection centre in the Capital to look after the needs of modified vehicle owners. This goes beyond motor sports and extends to all road users, the ADMM said.
The inspection centre will ensure that all safety regulations under the new decision are met. Prior to this decision, there was no place for vehicles owners to verify the safety of their modifications, potentially endangering not only the drivers but everyone sharing the roads.
The inspection centre allows for vehicle owners to comply with a unified set of regulations that ensures the highest safety standards, ultimately guaranteeing the safety of all road users.
The centre will be handling not only newly modified vehicles, but also all of those that have been modified in the past without verification.
This allows for vehicle owners to comply with set regulations and ensure they abide by all the highest standards. Vehicles can include automobiles, motorcycles,

trailers, caravans and tractors.
“This is a very welcome addition to the already wide portfolio of services that we offer drivers and the public,” said Al Tareq Al Ameri, CEO, Yas Marina Circuit. “We welcome a wide range of modified vehicles to our popular Yas Super Street Challenge and Freestyle Drifting events, and now drivers of these specialist vehicles can enhance safety even further thanks to the new inspection centre.”
“This centre gives and opportunity for those who are inadvertently breaking the law to become legal,” commented Mohammed Ben Sulayem, president, Automobile & Touring Club of the UAE (ATCUAE). “It gives a chance to legalise modified vehicles and ensure compliance across the board.”
This decision aims to protect consumers from unsafe vehicle modifications as well as to reduce accidents related to non-compliant vehicles. The implementation began on 1st June, 2017. —
