abu dhabi — Passengers travelling to or coming from Pakistan or India this week were treated to terminal-wide festivities at the Abu Dhabi International Airport, to mark the Pakistan and Indian Independence days on August 14 and 15 respectively.

The celebrations included a flash mob that surprised passengers arriving from various destinations in both countries, as they suddenly popped up in the baggage claim halls, leaving the people in total amazement.

Passengers had also the opportunity to take photos in front of the famous ‘Wagah Border’, a border ceremony that marks tradition for both countries. Both Terminal 1 and 3 carried the flags and colours of both nations as a tribute.

Abu Dhabi Duty Free and several of its concessionaires also joined in with many offers and discounts over the two days. In addition, the VIP Terminal gave 50 lucky passengers the opportunity to enjoy their luxury travel experience.

Acting chief executive officer Abdul Majeed Al Khoori said: “Abu Dhabi Airports is honoured to take part in the national celebrations of these two dear nations. India and Pakistan have been strong travel markets for Abu Dhabi International Airport, being one of the top regions from the Capital’s airport, and generating together 22 per cent of its annual passengers on average.”
