dubai — The brotherly relations between the UAE and Pakistan are set to be stronger and the two countries “move forward together towards a more peaceful world”, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Social Development, said during a Pakistan Independence Day celebration in Dubai.

Sheikh Nahyan was the chief guest at the Pakistan Association of Dubai’s (PAD) Independence Day event on Monday, where he also laid the first brick for a new non-profit medical centre — the Pakistan Centre — which will be completed in 18 months.

Addressing the crowd on the strong history and relationship between the UAE and Pakistan, Sheikh Nahyan said: “The successful relationship between our two countries contributes greatly to regional progress and stability and I am confident that the bond between Pakistan and the UAE will be stronger. Our two countries will move forward together towards a more peaceful and more prosperous world,” he said.

“I view us being together this evening as a tribute to the strong, brotherly relations between Pakistan and the UAE. We are grateful that the founder of the UAE, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, recognised the friendship of Pakistan, as we saw in the exhibition display here today.

“The leaders of the UAE have always exercised their wise judgement to support brotherly relations with Pakistan. In fact, they recognised the importance of the Pakistani community even before the UAE came into being.

“Those Pakistanis who lived and worked in the UAE founded this association (PAD) in 1963. Now, it is tending to the Pakistani community’s welfare and their happiness and prosperity. Amongst many admirable services, its attention to the medical needs of the Pakistani community strikes me as being specially commendable. Today, the Pakistan Centre is a fitting tribute to the ideals of Pakistan on this 70th anniversary of its Independence,” he said.

“He (Muhammad Ali Jinnah) said in 1948 and I quote again — ‘the story of Pakistan, its struggle and its achievements, is the very story of great human ideals — struggling to survive in the face of great odds and difficulties,” said Sheikh Nahyan.
