- Staff Reporter

dubai — With heart disease reported to be one of the biggest killers in the Middle East, a UAEbased healthcare group has equipped two of its centres with the technology, equipment and expertise to facilitate high-risk treatments.

The Cardiac Centre of Excellence at Zulekha Hospital Dubai and Sharjah are the centres that offer these treatments.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) represent 30 per cent of deaths in the UAE. The UAE Vision 2021 outlines a reduction in the number of lifestyle diseases. “Zulekha Healthcare Group is facilitating the realisation of the national goal through its innovative, affordable cardiac solutions,” said the group in a Press statement.

The consolidation of the centres’ capabilities come as the group reports seeing a 50 per cent increase in cardiac patients over the past year (May 2016June 2017) as compared to the same period the previous year.

“On an average, we are seeing a staggering 60 people per day at Zulekha Hospital who require minor to major cardiac treatments of some sort,” said Dr Anil Bansal, consultant interventional cardiologist.

Taher Shams, managing director of Zulekha Healthcare Group, added: “The centre’s reengineering is an important first step in increasing the awareness of world-class and available cardiac procedures here in the UAE.”
