Indecent clip creates panic among residents; 4 GCC nationals grilled

- Ismail Sebugwaawo

abu dhabi — The Abu Dhabi Police have issued a fresh warning against people violating the country’s norms and traditions through their thoughtless behaviours.

The warning follows the circulation of a video on social media that showed a young woman and a man having a conversation inside a car despite them not being related, which is contrary to the norms of the UAE society.

The police said the six-minute-video that spread on social media was contrary to the values, norms and traditions of the UAE society and raised panic and worry among the viewers. Brigadier General, Tariq Khalfan Al Ghoul, deputy director of the criminal investigations department at the Abu Dhabi Police, said besides violating the law, such behaviours are unacceptable because they are unethical and offensive to the society.

Four youngsters from a GCC nation, including three men and a woman, who posted and shared the video on their social media accounts have been interrogated and will be prosecuted, said the police in a statement.

The offenders were identified after the police’s electronic patrol team tracked down a social media account of a person who posted the offensive video online.

The force first caught the owner of the social media account who posted the video. And a further investigation into the matter led to the arrest of the other people who shared the offensive video. All the suspects have been referred to the public prosecution for charges.

Brigadier General Al Ghoul has urged members to strictly abide by the laws and to avoid any reckless behaviours that can harm the society.— ismail@khaleejtimes.com
