Learning to be a real scientist

- Saman Haziq Photos by Juidin Bernarrd

Twelve-year-old Rudrakshi couldn’t contain her excitement when she, with the help of an attendant, mixed vinegar, some colour and baking soda together and saw it sizzle with colourful bubbles. “This was the first time I ever experimented like a scientist and it was so exciting,” she exclaimed.

The Science Party, an exciting initiative offered to kids as a part of a plethora of edutainment activities by Al Ghurair Centre, has already captivated young minds.

The Bio Observation Station is a real-life science laboratory where kids can become little inventors and researchers. They are given the chance to explore and interact with real scientific equipment, and make inventions and observations of their own. Microscopes placed at the Bio Observation Station allows kids to see cells in onion peels, microorganisms in tap water sample and cells a fresh leaf is made up of.

Kids have a chance to learn how to write secret messages at this Science Party; using special ink just like it was used during the world war times.

Creative children can learn how to create lava lamps using intricate science and art supplies; they will be taught how to create new special colours using paint and other inventive elements. Art enthusiasts will also have the chance to make their very own kaleidoscopes, amongst various other imaginative activities.

The initiative goes hand-inhand with the UAE’s continued effort towards promoting improved educational standards within the country. It provides

the opportunity to participate in the enthralling Science Party that promises not only to entertain kids but also educate them and stimulate their young minds to get innovative.

The centre has launched a fun-filled, educational initiative where children get to unleash their inner scientist and create exciting new inventions of their own. The party is held every weekend from Thursday to Saturday from 4pm to 9pm at Level 1 of the mall. The weekly event will go on until September 23.

Dubai’s favourite scientist, Mark Mind — the genius, will fascinate all visitors at the party with his marvelous inventions and inspiring science-hacks. Kids will also share the stage with Mark and assist him with his unique creations. A photo booth in one corner of the Science Party arena allows kids to dress up as scientists — in white coats — and click pictures.
