How Dubai cops cracked Dh14M heist in 12 hours
dubai — The gang of Asians which carried out a Dh14 million heist in Dubai was busted within 12 hours of committing the crime, the police have revealed. As reported by Khaleej Times on Monday, the gang targeted a cash transfer company in the Muraqqabat area.
The police managed to recover the robbed money in full, according to Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commanderin-Chief of the Dubai Police. The police chief praised the criminal investigation department for not allowing the nine suspects to dispose of the money, “which has been returned to the owners”.
Major-General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, assistant commanderin-chief of the Dubai Police for criminal investigation, said the police were notified about the robbery on Thursday. A police team rushed to the spot and found that some gang members “distracted” the employees of the cash transfer firm as they were transferring cash to an ATM. The suspects then robbed the money and fled the spot.
Lieutenant-Colonel Adil Al Joker, director of the criminal investigation department, said their investigations revealed that the suspects were all Asians. The police zeroed in on them at an industrial area in a neighbouring emirate and arrested them.
Maj-Gen Al Marri said the police have held dialogues with government institutions and money transfer companies to discuss the gaps that exist in the mechanism used to transfer funds.
