- Afkar Abdullah

ajman — The Ajman Public Transportation Corporation (APTC) on Wednesday launched a fleet of 10 limousines known as “Sawari” in a new service.

Omar Ahmed bin Omair, director-general of the Ajman Public Transport Corporation, said that in light of achieving the strategic objectives of APTC, an agreement was signed with ride-hailing app Careem to develop limousine vehicles.

Bin Omair added that the APTC aims to enhance cooperation with various strategic partners under the directives of His Highness Shaikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, to allow the emirate to benefit from the experiences of others in the field of transportation.

Careem also introduced its full service in Ajman with Lexus cars, which will appear in the app as a “GoPlus” car type. Prices will start at Dh7 for instant bookings and the minimum fare is Dh19. “Knowing that many people will be using Careem for specific commutes from Ajman, Careem has introduced a set pricing model where customers can enjoy fixed fare price such as trips from Ajman City Centre to Dubai International Airport, Sharjah International Airport, The Dubai Mall and The Mall of the Emirates,” said the company.

There are plans to introduce other car types like Max and Kids if the demand is seen from customers in the emirate.

Bassel Al Nahlaoui, VP of government and business relations for Careem, commented: “As a homegrown brand that started life in the Emirates, it only makes sense for us to be serving the community of Ajman. We are really looking forward to understanding the city and what people need from us here — rolling out products and services that can help simplify people’s lives and at the same time creating more business for local captains. Ajman is a beautiful city and one that is increasingly developing its appeal as a home for people to live and work in, as well as a tourist destination for visitors to the Middle East. We hope to play a strong role in the local community and to engage with businesses as well as customers that can benefit from our services and technology.” Careem is free to download and is available for iOS and Android phones.
