3rd provider to shake up telecom market

dubai — Dubai-based Emirates Integrated Telecommun­ications Company (EITC) on Tuesday announced the launch of Virgin Mobile services in the UAE which allow subscriber­s to build their package. A one-month free service is the icing on the cake.

According to details available on its website, Virgin’s packages start from 50 min/50 SMS local with 1GB data plus 1GB free for Dh79. By adding just Dh10, the number of local calls/SMS will double to 100, according to a plan calculator available on the website.

The highest package that costs Dh365 offers 300 min/300 SMS local, 7GB plus 7GB free data and 200min/SMS internatio­nal service. The additional data package offer is for limited period only.

The subscriber­s will have the option to switch to new different packages on a monthly basis.

Du, however, offers 160MB monthly data for Dh20 for social networking and instant messaging; 1GB monthly data for Dh100 which includes browsing, email photo sharing, video streaming and apps downloads in addition to social networking apps.

The most expensive data package costs Dh500 which includes 25GB per month for the subscriber­s. For Etisalat customers, mobile data starts at 250MB plus 250MB social package for Dh30. However, the most expensive package costs Dh500, offering 25GB plus 15GB social package.

“Our team has developed an innovative digital platform to create simple customer-focused solutions. For example, there is no

longer the need to go to a shop for your mobile needs, just download the app and you can not only have your SIM delivered, but also manage your mobile plan through the app,” said Karim Benkirane, managing director of EITC’s Virgin Mobile business unit.

Customers can download Virgin Mobile UAE app on Google Play and Apple’s App Store to choose their own mobile number, make a mobile plan, scan Emirates ID and have SIM card delivered to the location of your choice within an hour.

In addition, subscriber­s can also track their data and minute usage in real time, search and choose their favourite mobile number and set up monthly spend limits.

EITC launched its du mobile service in the UAE in 2007 which is now subscribed by more than eight millions residents in the UAE.
