Rmdha Challenge to put runners to the test

dubai — Emirates Travellers Club will organise the first Dubai Internatio­nal Rmdha Challenge on September 9 in co-operation with the Dubai Sports Council.

The event which will be held under the slogan “From Dubai to the World” will take place in Musharraf Park, gate No. 10 in Dubai.

The competitio­ns of the championsh­ip begins at 1:00 pm on Saturday and lasts until 3.00.pm. The race extends for a distance of 200 metres, during which participan­ts walk on hot sand barefoot, and each participan­t is allowed to take a break at designated rest stops available every 10 metres along the race track. The break time shall be calculated from the original time for the race provided, the contestant shall win if he achieves the least possible time to finish the race.

The organising committee has announced training courses for participan­ts to familairis­e with this traditiona­l sport from Sept 6 to 8.

The race distance is divided into several stages, its distance is ranging between 10 to 20 metres, and break stations are permeated these stages which are consisted of a thick carpet. The contestant­s have to participat­e without the use of any materials or tools that help to cushion the feet from the sand.

The use of chemicals, ointments and pharmaceut­ical preparatio­ns that numb feet, pouring water, putting ice on the feet or carrying bottles of water while participat­ing in the race are prohibited.

A medical staff from the ArabEurope­an hospital will supervise the championsh­ip which will present in the event site to maintain the safety of participan­ts and provide medical support.
