DM intensifies campaign to ensure safe summer
dubai — As part of its Safe and Healthy Summer campaign, the Dubai Municipality has intensified awareness campaigns for workers in the infrastructure and construction projects. The campaign includes screening awareness films and conducting interactive programmes for workers to enhance their participation and to identify their level of awareness through special questionnaires.
In line with the municipality’s programmes to support the Year of Giving initiatives and within the theme of the campaign, “No to Exhaustion, Yes to Hydration,” the senior leadership participated in the awareness programmes by personally contributing in the implementation of awareness workshops. The move was part of the municipality’s efforts to raise confidence in the government’s determination and keenness to respect and care their health and safety.
Redha Salman, director of the health and safety department, said that the municipality, through its supervisory team, has been distributing electrolyte drinks and water bottles in different areas of the emirate since the launch of the campaign by mid-May and the team has visited 2,000 establishments since then.
He added that the municipality has intensified its focus on the health and safety of workers in the construction sector.
“So, these awareness activities were launched with special preparations such as air-conditioned tents. The health and safety department of the municipality was keen to activate them during mid-July to mid-August when the temperature goes to its highest levels in the region,” said Salman.
Every year, the civic body shows its keenness to distribute awareness materials such as brochures, leaflets and posters, as well as a worker’s pocket card on heat stress prevention in four languages through field visits and e-mails to more than 125,000 organisations, establishments and individuals, who have registered through egovernment, he said.
