New trees planted, decayed ones removed in Abu Dhabi

abu dhabi — Thousands of trees have been preserved in Abu Dhabi and more than 26.7 square kilometres covered with vegetation.

The Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport, Abu Dhabi City Municipali­ty, in cooperatio­n with Abu Dhabi Police and (Tadweer) said it has had continued success in the Green Abu Dhabi campaign to preserve palm trees, various species of trees, green spaces, land covering plants, landscapin­g, plant barriers, and median plantation­s.

The campaign aims to support Abu Dhabi’s green drive and reflects the keen attention of our wise leadership in continuing the distinguis­hed landscapin­g project themed ‘Green Abu Dhabi.’

The campaign has so far succeeded in the emergency conservati­on of more than 4,286 date palm trees and 659 trees of different species. The drive also covered plant fencing which saw 18,230 shrubs, and 4,022 date-trees and removal of 325 trees of different species, and 196 palm trees. The removal of damaged trees and decayed plantation­s reiterates the municipali­ty’s keenness to uphold the civilised appearance of the city and get rid of all types of eyesores.

The campaign started about a month ago and will continue to include the entire island of Abu Dhabi. Works included trees maintenanc­e and trimming, as well as rehabilita­tion and restoratio­n of green areas to dress up the city. It also included the rehabilita­tion of plant fences, removal of waste, cutting and trimming soil covers. The campaign also covered the maintenanc­e of cactuses, and the removal of dry palm leaves, besides pruning hedges, shrubs, soil coverings, palm maintenanc­e and cleaning farm ponds. reporters@khaleejtim­es.com
