- Ahmed Shaaban

ras al khaimah — A 21-year-old Emirati youth was killed in a road accident on the Daqdaqa–Airport Road in Ras Al Khaimah.

The man lost control over his car and rammed it into a tree and lamppost before the vehicle overturned several times, Major Salem Mohamed Burqiba, acting head of the traffic and patrols section with the RAK Police, said on Tuesday.

On being informed about the accident, the central operations room of the RAK Police dispatched traffic police, ambulances, paramedics and rescue teams to the site.

“We were alerted about the accident late on Monday around 12 midnight.” Enactment of the accident revealed speeding and lack of attention on road caused the accident, he added.

“The paramedics tried hard to rescue the victim who received serious injuries and bled excessively. However, he died on the spot and the car was totally damaged,” he said.

His body was shifted to the morgue and accident file was referred to the departments concerned for legal procedures.

Major Burqiba said all drivers need to observe traffic rules and regulations to ensure road users’ safety and theirs as well. “Drivers should be more attentive on the road, observe speed limits, and avoid driving while exhausted.”
