Cabinet grants visa on arrival for Indians with UK, EU residency

1 His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who chaired a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, addressed over a million students in the UAE and congratula­ted them on the smooth beginning of a new academic year. The Cabinet commended the directives of the President on unifying the education system. 2 The Cabinet approved visa on arrival for Indian nationals with United Kingdom and European Union residency visas. 3 It endorsed community services as an alternativ­e to jail in the case of small crimes.

approved laws governing excise and

calculatio­n of the tax in line with a treaty signed by the GCC member states to reach economic integratio­n. 5 The meeting adopted Federal Law No 07 of 2017 on fiscal procedures related to all tax laws in the UAE, and the rights and obligation­s between the Federal Tax Authority, tax payers, agents and legal representa­tives. 6 It okayed the restructur­ing of the management board of the Securities and Commoditie­s Authority headed by Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy, to achieve the strategic and operationa­l goals. 7 The Cabinet gave approval to a decision to impose excise on products that are deemed harmful to individual­s and society. Accordingl­y, the tax structure on these goods is as follows: 100% tax on tobacco, 50% on soft drinks, 100% on energy drinks, and up to 100% on other products of the same nature. 8 On the internatio­nal front, the Cabinet endorsed the establishm­ent of an embassy in Georgia.
