ras al khaimah — The Ras Al Khaimah Police have arrested five Asian residents involved in drug dealing and consumption in the northern emirate.

Colonel Adnan Ali Al Zaabi, director of the RAK Police’s antinarcotics department, said on Wednesday that they arrested the five druggies with banned narcotic crystals, intended for trafficking across the country. “Initially, the anti-narcotics department was alerted by undercover agents that an Asian resident was abusing and possessing narcotic crystals for peddling, mostly to the youth.”

A search and tracking team was formed to verify the tip-off and closely monitor the suspect, he added. “Armed with the prosecution permission, a trap was set and the anti-narcotics team caught the druggie red-handed,” he said.

The man admitted that all his customers were of the same nationality, Col Zaabi added. “He further told the anti-narcotics investigators about other four drug dealers of the same nationality, and they were arrested as well.”

The accused were cautious in their movements and used different techniques to cover their illegal practices, before their arrest.

Studies show that young people aged 14-20 are not well aware of the consequences of drug addiction. Parents are urged to keep an eye on their children and protect them against narcotics abuse. Late last August, the RAK Police’s antinarcotics team nabbed four Emirati residents also involved in drug trafficking.
