Haider steals show again for Mideast Metals in Weekend Slammers

dubai — Syed Haider continued from where he left off in the previous match with another flamboyant innings to steer Mideast Metals to a five-wicket win over Rowdy XI in the second edition of the Dubai Cricket Council’s Weekend Slammers played at the Dubai Sports City’s ICCA grounds.

Fresh from an unbeaten 102 against Roaring Lions the other day, Haider produced a similar performanc­e, only this time he missed his century by 15 runs but his matchwinni­ng knock against Rowdy was embellishe­d with a six and 10 boundaries and it came off 73 balls.

Giving him company in their chase of 165 for victory was Kunal Rupani (30) and Irfan Ashraf (26).

Earlier, Rowdy on winning the toss rode on a half century from Shitij Kapoor (52), Shivaz Monga (35) and Moiz Jetpurwala (20 not out) to post 164 for 9 from 25 overs. Kush Khataria (3-25) and Ali Anwar (2-14) took the wickets for Mideast. Roaring Lions, who were humbled by Mideast Metals in their previous match, salvaged some pride after a convincing sevenwicke­t win over Strikers.

Shakeel Butt (37), Imran Shua (35), Ali Shadan (30) and Ahmad Zaidi (22) managed to help Strikers reach 180.
