- Ismail Sebugwaawo

abu dhabi — Two women stood trial in an Abu Dhabi court, accused of getting pregnant through illicit relations.

The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court of First Instance on Tuesday heard that the Ethiopian and Filipino women had illicit sex and got pregnant. The women are being tried in separate cases.

The court documents stated

I am not married. I got pregnant after having sex with my boyfriend.” Filipina defendant

that the police had arrested the women, both Abu Dhabi residents, after getting information that they were pregnant despite them not being married. After making investigations into their cases and confirming that the women were pregnant, they were referred to court.

The Ethiopian woman, a divorcee, had earlier admitted to the charge during interrogation at the prosecution.

But in the court, the woman appeared with her baby and denied the charge.

She told the judge that she had earlier been married and that her husband, back home, made her pregnant before they separated.

“I didn’t have illicit affair with anyone,” she said. The judge asked her to appoint a lawyer who would represent her in next hearing.

The Filipino woman, an unmarried Muslim, admitted to the charge of having a baby through an illicit relationship before the judge. “I am not married. I got pregnant after having sex with my boyfriend,” said the Filipina.

The trials were adjourned until October 9.
