Police surprise tourist, send her stolen mobile phone home
dubai — Having lost her mobile phone during a visit to Dubai, a Spanish tourist returned to her country hugely disappointed. She felt she would never be able to cherish the photos of her Dubai trip captured on her phone — which, as it later turned out — was stolen. But a pleasant surprise awaited her. One fine day, as she was busy in her daily chores, she got a box delivered to her residence. Inside it was her mobile phone and a symbolic gift from the Dubai Police.
The police had not only tracked the phone thief, but also made sure it reached its owner. The woman was elated beyond measure and couldn’t thank the police enough.
In a video sent to the police, she expressed her happiness and showered praises on them. “I would like to thank the Dubai tourist police. Thanks for their excellent efforts to get my mobile phone back. I thank them for their dedication and for this wonderful gift.”
Dr Mubarak Saeed Bnawas Al Kutbi, director of the tourist police department, said the Spanish tourist came to Dubai some time back and went with a tourist company for a desert safari. “Unfortunately, she left her bag in the company’s car, and someone stole the phone.”
Al Kutbi explained that the tourist initially thought she had forgotten her mobile phone in the hotel. But when she returned there, she couldn’t find it in her room. Later, a video camera in her bag clearly showed that someone had stolen the phone. Al Kutbi pointed out that the tourist police immediately formed a team and began investigating the theft. They contacted the tourist company and after investigation, it was found that the company’s car driver had stolen the phone. Legal action was initiated against him.
He said the tourist police then sent the mobile phone to the tourist’s residence in Spain with a symbolic gift to bring her happiness.
