Dubai Police issue clarification on Briton’s arrest
dubai — The Dubai Police on Friday denied media reports about a British motorist’s arrest in Dubai for flashing his finger towards another driver in a road rage.
In a statement, the Dubai Police clarified that reports that went viral on social media networks and a section of Western media about the arrest contained incorrect information and contradictions.
“With reference to the news about the Dubai Police detaining a British man, the Dubai Police Headquarters confirms that G.A., a British national, had done an offensive act while driving a rented car on Al Khail Road to complainant, A.G, an Asian driver. A.G. was travelling in his car accompanied by his wife and children and reported the matter to the police,” the statement said.
“It appeared that the accused left the country at that time and during his return to the UAE on September 10, he was detained. The police had summoned the complainant and tried for a reconciliation.
“All attempts for reconciliation were failed as the complainant was offended by the act of the British man in front of his wife and children,” the statement said.
The matter was then referred to the Public Prosecution.
“The Dubai Police confirm to everyone — be residents, visitors or citizens — that they are equal in the eyes of the law and the police are keen on transparency,” it said.
