30-year-old man jailed for groping girl inside a shop

dubai — A man, accused of groping a nine-year-old girl while she was by herself in a shop, has been sentenced to three months in jail.

The 30-year-old Bangladeshi employee was found guilty by the Court of First Instance of a molestation charge and was ordered to be deported after serving his jail term. He confessed he touched the girl but claimed he had no idea why he did that. The incident happened on June 10.

“After receiving the complaint, we went to the shopping centre and found the accused crying and looking agitated. He was being restrained by the security guard. The girl told us the man intentionally touched her,” a police sergeant said.

He added that the CCTV showed the accused inappropriately touching the girl and it happened intentionally. Another policeman, who wrote down the statement of the girl, said she recounted to him how the defendant came from behind her and touched her twice which she told her mother.

During interrogation, the accused admitted he touched the girl twice, claiming he had no idea why he did that. He apologised to the girl’s mother after she filed a complaint against him.
