many shoppers’ wait-and-see attitude pays off greatly

For gitex shopper patrons that chose to wait until the very last days of the exhibition before going on a spending spree, their patience has been rewarded as retailers slashed their prices further for the weekend rush.

Many shoppers decided to take a chance and wait for the weekend, which saw the last two days of the exhibition, before going deciding on their purchases. Managers across the Emax, Jumbo, and Jacky’s stands all anticipated an influx of visitors over the final days of the exhibition, especially since it fell on a weekend.

“We have had people come in from as far as Oman, especially for this edition of Gitex,” a promoter at the Emax stand said.

Urvani Patel, a shopper who lives in Dubai, said that her cousin’s family had come in from Abu Dhabi on Thursday for the last days of the event. She was joined by her husband and two teenage sons.

“My cousin and her husband will leave for Abu Dhabi tonight,” she said. “Right now, we are all looking for each of our products. One of my sons wanted a tablet and the other wanted a smart watch. I got a very good deal on a fridge last time, so I am not looking for anything for myself right now.”

Patel’s cousin, on the other hand, had recently shifted homes in Abu Dhabi, and was looking to buy a new TV for her living room, as well as a laptop. Asked if she had come to the exhibition in the beginning of the week, Patel answered no.

She also said that her whole family had decided to wait for the very last day to get the best deals on all their purchases.

slashing their prices. Many were also hoping that stands would be having clearance sales.

“I have seen a drop in prices, but it’s not that much,” Kasim Malik, another shopper at the exhibition said. “I really wanted to get a new iPhone but the prices are still very high. The deals are also okay and not very special.”

Other shoppers had focused on doing their research before the last day of the event.

One shopper explained how his son had come to the exhibition with his friends in the first few days and looked at the prices.

“I got a great bundle deal on a two-in-one convertible laptop, and my son told me to wait to get the best price if I was going to buy it,” he said.
